November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, But For Many Just Another Month of Pain

Paterson, NJ (PRWEB) November 09, 2011

Diabetes affects a whopping 25.8 million Americans, or over 8% of the population, according to 2011 data from the American Diabetes Asoociation1. Dr. Enrico’s Nutritionals, along with the ADA, recognizes American Diabetes Month every November to highlight the disease. With someone being diagnosed every 17 seconds, more education and awareness is needed to help prevent diabetes.

Among the most common long-term complications, affecting up to 50% of diabetics, is neuropathy2. The symptoms of neuropathy can range from burning, tingling or pinching sensations to weakness and heaviness, eventually resulting in nerve loss and numbness.

“Many of the prescription drugs and medical treatments catering to diabetic neuropathy are simply not effective enough to offset their harsh side effects,” says registered podiatrist Dr. Anthony Enrico Jr., who has spent the greater part of the last 25 years treating patients suffering from neuropathy.

Through the extensive treatment of patients at his practice, he believes lifestyle intervention is key to helping patients deal with associated symptoms from neuropathy. “I developed Neuropasil™, because I saw the need for a nutritional supplement that could be highly effective in helping restore and maintain optimal nerve health.”

“For those suffering from diabetic neuropathy, it is essential to treat the condition on two fronts,” continued Dr. Enrico. “First, and most importantly, one must find the underlying cause of their sensation. Second is finding adequate relief, so a normal lifestyle can be restored. One ingredient that that I do recommend to my patients and include in my formula is Alpha Lipoic acid, an ingredient vital to the maintenance of healthy nerves and highly researched.”3

Researchers investigating the causes for diabetic neuropathy attribute it to a number of factors, including metabolic, neurovascular and autoimmune factors, mechanical injury, inherited traits and lifestyle factors4. These symptoms may be alleviated through surgery and appropriate changes in nutrition, exercise and lifestyle.
